Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th State of the Union in 1907 and included the bulk of Indian Territory.
Despite its name, whites comprised more than three quarters of the population of Indian Territory at the turn of the century. The remainder was roughly split between Indians and blacks who were former slaves of the Indians or their descendants.
The Indian population was largely comprised of the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Choctaw, and Chickasaw which came to be known as the "Five Civilized Tribes." A variety of other tribes were represented, however, including the Quapaw, Peoria, Modoc, Seneca, Ottawa, Wyandot, and Shawnee. The Indian nations set up such towns as Tulsa, Ardmore, Chickasha, McAlester, Tahlequah, Durant, Tishomingo, Muskogee, some of which remains among the largest cities in the area today.
The booklet itemizes approximately 2100 villages, towns, creeks, rivers, mountains and other named features of the area along with a description of their locations and including, in many cases, nearby rivers, railroads, population, or other characteristics. A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Extinct and Dormant Baronetcies of England, Ireland and Scotland. John Burke and John Bernard Burke. Second Edition (1841, 1999) 644 pp.

King James I instituted the order of Baronet in 1611, and in the 230 years between that date and the year 1841, when the second edition of this work was originally published, nearly 1,000 Baronetcies succumbed to extinction or dormancy, the result of common exclusions in the laws governing descent. The purpose of this book is to set forth, in alphabetical sequence, the lineage of each of the nearly 1,000 holders of the order of Baronet up to the time of the extinction of the royal patent. The genealogy, throughout, is exact and meticulous, the materials in all cases deriving from public archives, private record collections, and competent authorities.

Each article, superscribed by the family name and an illustration of the Baronet's armorial bearings, begins with the exact dates of the patent's creation and extinction, proceeding therefrom to the lineage, which commences with the first known representative of the line and is carried through successive generations up to the time of the extinction of the title, each generation constituting a litany of births, marriages, and deaths. The skeletal outlines are fleshed out with a wealth of incidental detail, which includes references to education, service, occupation, and death, and descriptions of arms, in short, biographical particulars of a kind sufficient to make the reading both stimulating and informative. Altogether something on the order of 35,000 persons are referred to in the text.

Clearfield's publication is a reprint of the second edition of 1841, the first edition to include the extinct and dormant Baronetcies of Ireland and Scotland, never before collected or published.

Genealogical.com publishes genealogy books and CDs. A History of the Acheson Family on the Paternal Side. Acheson, A. W. (1878)"The ceramics produced by the English potters of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries have always claimed the attention of collectors; and there has arisen, particularly in recent years, quite an extensive literature dealing with the more famous masters of the craft and their no less famous productions. The family of Adams, which can claim as one of tis members the earliest recorded master potter of Staffordshire, has its niche in this library of the art. The fact that the three msot noteworthy members of teh family all bore the christian name of William, and flourished more or less contemporaneously in teh eighteenth century, has given rise to error and confusino in the account of their lives and work; their common descent and consequent relationship to one another has also been stated inaccurately, and one of my objects in printing these notes has been to correct such errors." -- Taken from the preface by Percy W.L. Adams."Mr. Samuel Waters Allerton, of Chicago, Illinois, in issuing this revised edition of the "Allerton Family," does not intend to detract from the great credit to be given Mr. Walter S. Allerton for his publication of 1888, but simply to add facts which have been found since that time, and to correct errors which almost invariably occur in Genealogies through incorrect family records thought to be true when published, but afterward found otherwise." -- From the Preface, written by Horace True Carrier.A History of the Antecedents and Descendents of William and Dorothy Worthen Forrest, of Canterbury Borough, N.H., with Many Biographical Sketches and Family Portraits: Eight Generations.
In the spirit of "Truth in Advertising," a better title might have been "A History of the People of Antigonish." Fully two thirds of this very rare book are devoted to biographical descriptions of the early and well know families of this ancient Nova Scotia region. Not to say that the historical content is trivial. The Rev. D. J. Rankin, the author of record, credits J. W. MacDonald, esq., M.D., Mr. William Cameron (teacher,) and Rev. Ronald MacGillivray with providing virtually all of the historical content which would seem to mean that this content is the product of well respected, specialist, scholars and so far more valuable than the results of one man's gleanings.
The Rev. Rankin also provides a bibliography of (and numerous credits to) the sources of the copious genealogical information in this book. The biographies are arranged by family groups and indexed by the root family name.
(1931)
Another wonderful history of an Ontario County. This one is a little unusual in that it has been sponsored by the "Grey County Council" and so has something of the stamp of official authority. As you might expect it contains the history of the county from it's earliest settlement. The author has devoted the first two chapters to "The Indians" and "Indian Legends and Customs" this being a discussion of the initial
